It's becoming more and more an awareness that if you give a kid a toy they will play with the box.
As a recycler living on a single income in a two income society this activity is both thrifty and recycling. Further more when I'm finished (annoyed at the toy) I can then put it in the recycle bin. Win-win.
I began by washing/rinsing the lids of milk containers and putting them in our top drawer. It doesn't seem to take long before you have more milk lids then spoons (or is it just me that lose the spoons?).
These lids can also be used to build, stack, make patterns, sequence challenges, put in and out of a bowl or cup, pour from one container to another, glue or nail onto craft projects, put little Pom Pom things into. Kids have great imaginations they'll think of something ;)
Simply cut a hole in the lid of an empty clean formula tin, collect clean milk lids, show toddler how it's done. Listen to them enjoy it :)
