When our children were little we formed a little group of moms and kids just to have playdates and go to the playground together. But what it ended up being was a powerful support system for all of us. We had our differences, naturally, but we had a wonderful connection, we were there for each other. Always. We never had arguments or fights. It was nothing like the real housewives of New Jersey-there was no drama.
We celebrated holidays together, had numerous picnics, a million playdates, played endless board games, had our own Chopped (Chopped is a cooking show on Food Network), designed lots of crafts and most of all we celebrated womanhood and motherhood. There was love, acceptance, respect, loyalty and warmth. We shared meals and recipes, laughs and giggles, tears and joys. It was powerful.
Today, our group is no longer together, well at least geographically. We do manage, however, to stay in touch and arrange skype sessions with kids but it’s not the same...
One of our traditions was to celebrate Mother’s Day a few days before the actual holiday. My hibiscus plant always blooms around this time and it gave one flower today. I still have my purple african violet near my computer and it’s blooming (reminiscent Mother’s Day 2011). So many memories...little reminders that make me smile.
This year we tried to carry on the tradition-but it was the two of us.
In todays crazy digital age we tend to take millions of pictures that end up hidden in our external hard drives. Don’t you miss the old days of film when you had to actually print and enjoy your photos? I sure do.
While I was feeling nostalgic I made myself to go through a daunting task of looking through years of un-enjoyed, unprinted, long forgotten, cold digital files and folders and found some treasures. To tell you the truth I don’t even think I had shared these with my Mom-friends. Well, now they will look at them. So today I present to you pictures from 2011 and 2012 -simple and stylish celebrations of our many mother’s days.
