I love a simple idea that is easy to set up, fun for children and education.
Let me tell you more...
It's Educational
It teaches children (especially babies or young toddlers) about cause and effect.
So to explain, if I drop a pompom into the top of this tube it suddenly appears out the other end and into the container. WOW! It is also helpful in developing their fine motor control.
Modified
Regardless of your childs age this activity can be modified and extended to suit their ability. Older children can use many tubes to create a larger running track. This would also allow them to learn about testing through trial and error.
Achievement
This activity allows children to experience success! Now that is important.
Easy
It's so easy to set up as most of the things you need are around the house.
Simply pull a tube from the middle of a paper towel roll and back with sticky tape.
You can wait until you have finished all the paper towelling but I never have the patients. (hehehe)
I stuck the tubes against my kitchen bench and it worked perfectly. Add a container and a few items, I used pompoms. Obviously with small children you need to supervise them with small objects. Once the understanding is established you might wish to extend the tube run.
VIDEO CLIP
Here is a gorgeous clip of a little boy having a great time with this activity.
Thank you kindly to Michaela for allowing me to use this clip.
I hope you and your children enjoy this activity.
