All week we've been practising our behaviours down town running errands and having fun and catching up with people.
I've been blessed...
I've re-realised the little games you play while waiting ages in a queue, tapping on toddler hands on the trolley, going RAaH while older children play 'spotto' and you have no idea what they are looking at or talking about. Just so you know there are lights on the underside of the shelves in the fridge sections if you need to know that one!
Having fun with the kids while out has made the journey more enjoyable for all of us.
Sure, have your over-achievable to do list but be prepared to abandon jobs and make detours to parks to buy some feeding time.
Take food and snacks!!! DER~~~
Check the mirror before you leave. If you've been wearing a shirt for more than 5 minutes chances are it has spew on it.
I call it car schooling. The children are still learning and we talk about things along the way. They can even give me a running commentary of what is happening along the side of the road, the park, people's houses and even the moment-to-moment of who hit who with and where and with what. Usually I learn how many people in the car, how many girls in our family, how many spoons we need to set the table and a variety of colours, shapes and signs.
I learnt there is lots of manouverability with swinging a tanty-toddler on your hip (hip to hip, kid lays flat face down with your arm wrapped around his belly) while his arms flail madly, back arches and legs kick and you can still push a heavy double trolley through a very busy supermarket. In toddlers defense he is teething and it was lunch time. The REAL challenge comes when teen-boys think they can push in and stop in front of you to look at choc milks and I need a parachute to stop the trolley from skidding into them.... And of course pushing a trolley with one hand and comfortably clutching the toddler in the other while your MATERNITY PANTS start their decent... a sure sign of weightloss without effort. Not sure how you manage that one before it's too late.
Rushing around before bubba wakes for a feed cos I am fairly certain that even I can't manage to push a trolley, carry a tanty toddler and comfort a hungry demanding newbie all-at-the-same-time! So should have taken the sling with me just in case!
Remember that capsule I told you about? Absolute necessity in errand running. I manage to strengthen my girlie muscles (Isaiah's terminology) by carrying non-tanty toddler and baby capsule while directing walking children to stay alive and steer clear of moving vehicles. Capsule on trolley, toddler in seat, walking children walking while I hope one in particular doesn't run off, and my pants stay up!
The real trouble starts when I realise I forgot the promised tiny teddies for well behaved children...
5 Things I am Thankful for:
1. Practise has made us all better at going out - especially me :)
2. No one has blasted me for my older kids mindlessly wandering into their path
3. sleeping bubba
4. Overstocked cupboard and freezer
5. The weeks Fellowship!!!
and... I just got peed on :( actually it was poop...
