Strawberry Picking

Strawberry season is very short in New Jersey but our state is called Garden State for a reason. As soon as we were gifted a beautiful sunny day after so many rainy days in a raw we headed to our favorite, local farm for some pick your own strawberries. Add some hay ride, picnic and some mud play and you have happy kids who didn't want to leave the farm. The first thing we spotted was this two hearts cloud. This was our second time spotting a heart shaped cloud. Two years ago while cloud watching my daughter had spotted a perfect one and I turned that picture into a poster. Have you even spotted a memorable, picture worthy cloud?
We picked lots of strawberries and sugar snap peas. You couldn't help but taste these sweet and delicate strawberries right off the vine.
Strawberries are a member of the rose family.

Strawberries are the first
fruit to ripen in the spring.

When we came home I decided to make something fresh and cooling. I blended some fresh strawberries using my handy dandy Cuisinart hand blender. Then added some honey for sweetness and poured some sparkling lemonade. Yum!

Give it a try. You can substitute strawberries with any berries you like. You don't have to use sparkling lemonade. Plain sparkling water will be just fine. Don't forget to add a few cut strawberries in the drink for pizazz.

Enjoy!
