Today was our second day on holidays. We spent it at St Augustine Residential College at an LEM homeschool conference.
I really enjoyed it! The hubby? Not so much. But I was very appreciative of him looking after his own kids from time to time. Even though I received several texts asking if we were done yet or not.
On arrival I wasn't sure if we were at the right place. Until I saw several 7-9 seater passenger vans. Then I knew ;) isn't that really funny!!
I took several pages of notes, am fired up for homeschooling (again), more convinced I'm doing the right thing for our family and also encouraged that I am and have been traveling along the right track. You've got to love that!!
I picked up some more books also. But not too many as I have what I need for our style of learning - generally speaking.
I met a lady who has 3 kids (5, 3 & 18months). Just starting out homeschooling. So much the same as me. That was really cool!! And she was the oldest of 8 homeschooled kids. Double cool.
I unfortunately missed the session on why teach Latin - a dead language. I didn't realise they were electives and was in the wrong building. Whoops.
I'm pretty sure the gist of that is because a lot of words originated in Latin and so if you know the root word or original word, and it's meaning, words would mean so much more to you.
I did catch the phonics session. Which was helpful and encouraging for me.
They had a morning kids program. The children played musical instruments and all different sorts. They also did painting using primary colors and mixing into additional colors. That went straight over my kids head. Will do it one day with them again.
I was very thankful for the kids program as I thought I was going to have to make them be quiet ALL day!
During our lunch break we went for a drive to get food. Stopping at a large shopping centre and parking upstairs meant traveling down an escalator. I was excited because they havnt see one in a long time and I wanted to show them. They wouldn't get onto it. With a nudge and a push their options were none. Amalia had a scream when I released her tight grip and grabbed hold of the railing thing. It was amusing to say the least!! I tried to get a pic but it was too hard :(
After the conference we returned to the tent, cooked dinner in the camp kitchen, ate it, I took 3 kids to bathe and get ready for bed while mik washed up our dishes and Isaiah swept the floor then Michael put Isaiah to bed and we put the others to bed also.
The children are really tired after their traveling day and homeschool day. And so we are...
