Perth trip - day 6 - Zoo

Today we headed to UWA to drop mik off at the gym. The kids and I then went to Kings Park, Rio Tinto naturescape. It's free. There's a creek running through it with a variety of things to explore. Pretty cool. I remember a similar, better, all natural place where we used to go often close to where I used to live in Roleystone.

If we had more time it'd have been cooler.

I let Isaiah know that 4 more sleeps and we will be packing up and heading home. They are not happy about it :( they want to stay here and keep doing learning. They don't even realise they are being 'schooled' I love that!!

Next we parked along the riverside while mik ran into iga to get some lunch to take into the zoo.

The 'parking meter maid' checks the cars for tickets. Scary.. She's got her ticket thing ready to fine people...

Zoo.

The zoo cost us $69 for 2 Adults and 2 Children with two free babies.

As we entered I made mik sit with the four kids while I checked out the gift shop. I wanted to see if they had a Perth zoo book/activity book that we could learn etc. homeschooler in me 😳. They did :) kind of for $7.95.

I hadn't planned what we'd do or when. I wish I had pre-planned where we'd go first and what to see and how to get their. So we were a bit lost to begin with.

We saw just about everything. We missed some of the Australian wildlife only seeing half the section because we were their and had seen everything else. Country people know what kangaroos look like alive and dead.

What was important to us to see was the lions, elephants, monkeys and giraffe.

They walk the elephant through the zoo for exercise. She walks between two keepers and is very obedient not even being on a lead. She is very big. One of the signs says she is Tricia which means she is very old and the same elephant I saw when I was in primary school. That was very special.

We saw the giraffes. One rubbed it's face along the fence. Isaiah wanted to know why it was scratching its face. I said I don't know - ask it. He said they don't talk.

The lions were just lying still. They never seem to move when I've seen them.

The monkeys were the coolest. Probably because they are the most active and show a lot of character. I like the Pygmy mormoset and the lemurs and the cotton top something or rather..

We saw a keeper feeding the bears and training them with food rewards. She must have needed to check the health of the bears or just train them to be obedient to a variety of demands. She even spread her fingers wide and the bear opens its mouth so she can look inside. That was cool.

I got to show Amalia the bat and teach her how they hang upside down, can fly but are not birds.

We saw snakes, lizards and frogs. Even though they are behind glass they still freak me out :( Isaiah told me the other day he wanted to see a really big snake. He saw the fat python. It was HUGE. Scary.

We got the opportunity to walk with the monkey in a cage. It was the cotton top ones. They were gorgeous!!! Loved it!!

The kids were overall REALLY wel behaved with the exception of Miss Avigail (17 months). Nothing pleases her (except her Papa - whom she loves). He hired a pull cart thing and stick her in it. She really enjoyed that and I enjoyed the fact she couldn't get out with a tight belt on :) haha she could even see animals.
Avigail even enjoyed looking at the animals. She would watch and even stop crying to see them.

Many years ago I bought my two nieces a special monkey from the zoo gift shop. They had magnets in their hands and could hang. So cute!! I wanted to buy my kids a monkey and keepsake of their zoo experience. I don't usually spend so much $$ on something so frivolous like stuffed toys but this is the exception. I've been working and it's hard work. Isaiah chose an orangatang. I held out a chimpanzee with a baby and jarah chose that one. Amalias one has a baby too but I forgot what it's called. Avigails is the cotton top one that I like.
The children love their monkey and were role playing all the way home. I now have 3 sleeping kids with 5 sleeping monkeys in bed with kids. Cute hey!! Jarah put his monkeys in bed before himself in the middle of the tent floor. So cute!!

I am looking forward to going back next year (hopefully) on our next (hopefully) Perth trip.

This is (I think) our first family holiday . Meaning specifically for a holiday and not to move state or house.
I'm loving it!!!

After the zoo we went to sizzler all you can eat. That was cool. The baby is full up on peaches and custard. The rest of us are full too. Sizzler is a family requirement of being in Perth.

After dinner we returned to camp and got kids to bed. Yay, rest time for the adults.

Another wonderful day. A perfect educational day. If we lived here or were staying for a long time I'd get a year pass and we'd visit OFTEN!!!!

Ok. So photos. Some of them ;) mik took most of these on his iPhone. Once again a really appreciated his being with us and experiencing all this educational stuff with us as a family.
